Managing Employee Relations through HR Strategy in Global Organizations in India: The Role of Social and Cultural Realities
SHRM Recommended Readings
Doing Business in India
This presentation deals with the impact of social and cultural realities in employee relations management in the MNC sector in India.
In trying to manage people issues more carefully, it is a global reality that more and more companies are investing heavily in their human capital management. In a conflict that centered on employee relations, factory workers lynched the CEO of an Italian MNC in the Indian national capital territory region. In another case, a non-union strategy failed after having worked successfully for more than two decades. The focus of this presentation centers on discussing the cultural profile of the Indian employee and analyzing these cases to draw conclusions for global companies in India. We also will discuss how the edifice of a peaceful employee relations system could be built in
Indian locales of MNCs through appropriate HR strategies that focus on pursuing
culture-management and not necessarily high-pay strategies.
