2010 SHRM Annual Conference & Exposition
Managing California Employment Laws from Afar
This session will highlight the major areas of concern for California employees when headquarters are based elsewhere.
For organizations headquartered outside California, managing employees in California can be daunting. New laws seemingly pop up all the time, even at the local level, such as the San Francisco Paid Sick Leave Ordinance. This session will focus on the major areas in which California laws differ from federal and most other state laws, for example, wage & hour, overtime exemptions, leaves of absence, time off and discrimination/harassment. We will explore important policy questions, for example, whether to apply the benefits of California law to non-California employees. We will also cover how to set up your processes to manage compliance and limit risk.
